History

The following is a brief history of Gamexe.net:

Gamexe.net was created and made open to the public on the 5th of September, 2005. Daniel St. Jules, the owner and head webmaster of the website, had spent countless hours working on the project before its initial opening. Gamexe.net, what was first known as Gaming Exe due to its ties to both gaming and other technological subjects, possessed a small forum, humble amount of content, and topsite list.

"A layout so sexy, you wish you could marry it."

Content was added with great enthusiasm within the first few months of uptime but wintertime brought with it an abundance of activities to prevent the website from receiving as much attention from its webmaster as it deserved. A long list of new sports, and a steadily increasing gaming addiction, left the website without updates for a couple months. The small community, which had become the heart of the website and a very active contributor to the amount of daily visits, slowly died away due to its lack of maintenance. The site began to die, and the hits began to disappear; all this branching off from a gaming and sports addiction.

"Video Game addiction...the first step is admitting."

Then, after a couple months of being away, Daniel returned to Gamexe.net with a new version in hand. V.2 was quickly released, offering a great new look to the site and many new free resources. The webmaster decided to reinstall the forums, giving the website a fresh start, and many other changes were made. New and active staff also contributed great amounts of content to the website during this time.

"Ruby City?! POKEMON FTW!"

A few months further down the line, v.3 was added which included many changes. The site became database driven and content management was all performed through a CMS script which Daniel had coded. The site’s popularity was also increasing with a number of new tutorials from various staff members, free templates and skins for Aardvark Topsites PHP and phpBB, and the re-opening of the forums resulted in the creation of another great community. Unfortunately, due to problems with a previous host, which resulted in frequent downtimes and scripts malfunctioning, time which could have been spent making updates to the site was instead directed to fixing many bugs and other issues which presented themselves.

"A signature with green and red?! What was I thinking? Those colours clash!"

V.4 of the website brought another abundance of changes to the website. Not only did the site adopt a cleaner look, but also took the form as a XHTML and CSS compliant project. A new host marked the beginning of what we hoped to be an end to our hosting service troubles, and content became a priority for the site. The website was born anew (for the 2nd time), and a new path was paved as it changed its name from Gaming Exe to Gamexe.net.

"Momma says dat tables are ornery because theys got so many cells but no vacuum to keeps'em clean."

Today, the website is striving in the vast world of the World Wide Web, and a bright future lies ahead. What changes and great new developments will occur? We don’t know, although we hope you’ll stick around to find out.
