Kinda old news, but whatever.

This guy is a bit of an idiot, though. More P2P websites will spawn because of this. Case in point: OiNK. When that got shut down, 2 more websites popped up.

Oh well. It had a good run.

Oh well, I prefer IsoHunt anyway.

I may have to go back to using GIMP now, though, since I just got a new computer and all.

Agreed. I still got a few things from TPB, though.

Well, yeah, but they're going under new ownership so it's going from a free website to a pay-to-use.

Freedom of speech, privacy and net neutrality is losing the battle right now. To make things worse in Sweden, the home nation of The Pirate Bay, they recently passed new legislation allowing police to monitor all internet activity, and fine users whenever they please. That's right. You can be looking at thousands of dollars in fines cause you downloaded a movie. And if you're one who downloads a lot, you could face much harsher fees, as the maximum charge is something over $100,000 per item of copyrighted material. The day that got passed in Sweden, internet activity was cut in more than half in that country out of fear. And this legislation is being thrown around several other countries. It is being revised in Canada, and I think is even making its way up the system in the US.

As for The Pirate Bay itself, people will move on. People aren't going to use their services after they switch to paid, cause that company doesn't understand the market, or rather userbase that they're dealing with. Sure, they can say "we'll offer those downloads at a reduced price. movies a bit cheaper, or songs only $1 per download". But we already have that, and you know what, none of us care. We still want it for free, and will continue to download from other torrent trackers, both big and small. Shutting down one site, as large of an entity it was, will not destroy this movement, or internet revolution.

Surprising, as if anything, the country is pretty liberal with their opinions on piracy and file sharing. Just wait t'ill that legislation starts making it big in the states - it might go through the system quicker than you would think. :?

It's a shame because Sweden is one place I wanted to live, but if I can't even browse the internet without being watched...

Ugh. QWERTY the government. All government. And corporations.

Anarchy FTW.

Anyway, I just downloaded a torrent from them a couple days ago.

It was an anime season, so I doubt I'd get fined :P
