Anyone else using the new Windows 8 Consumer Preview? I'm dual booting it and long story short, I'm seriously not a fan. But I'll leave that rant for another time.

Anyway, here's a look:

As you can see, there's no start button. Instead, you have to hover your mouse to where the start button would normally be and click on the window that comes up. The start screen is the first screenshot (which must be tablet based) - I guess, but I don't like it. Since the start menu no longer has important things organized, if you hover your mouse to the top right corner, you get this panel that has Search (all files and apps as well as things like Run, Control Panel, Computer, etc.) - basically a section of the Start Menu on W7 or Vista. I think it's irritating having to go there every time you want to open Paint or Control Panel so I hope they change this in the full release. There's also some Sharing tool (I know nothing about that) and believe it or not, a Settings panel to access Control Panel, some other features (WIFI, Volume, Notification, etc) and the Shut down/restart/sleep button. I hate having to go there every time I want to shut my computer down. I guess I'm ranting even though I said I wasn't going to, but I'm just assuming no one has tried this out yet. ;)

I haven't used it so this isn't exactly an educated opinion, but the new tiles structure looks really sleek but impractical. Crossover with LIVE seems a good idea though.

It's a cheap alternative to drugs.

Yea, I'm not sure about that. They're definitely going to appeal to the tablet market, but I wonder how much of a share they can take away from Android. Look at how many Windows smart phones there are nowadays?

As for the your griefs with the system so far, it sounds like there has to be some customizable settings in the works or something to improve it. There's no way they'd just leave it like that and ruin the experience for desktop users.

Yeah, I heard there are customizations, I just never got around to dinking around with them.

While that is cool, there's now really nothing too different in Windows 8 that isn't already in Windows 7 so I'm getting kinda mad lol.

Well, it's designed for tablet use, so there's gotta be quite a few major differences, but you might not benefit from them using it on a PC.

Also this is an example of how the XP default colours look out of place with everything.
