Gamexe.net Tutorial Contest!

Quoted from the topic:
----------------------
That's right. Gamexe.net is now hosting a contest. Why? For a couple reasons. The most obvious is that I'd like to encourage some friendly competition and participation on the forums, as well as to offer a gift to aspiring designers and programmers for their hard work. But why a tutorial contest? Because Gamexe.net is all about sharing resources and knowledge, and I'd like to encourage other users to do so too!
On to the details...
The Gamexe.net Tutorial Contest is exactly what it sounds like. It's a competition in which users submit a tutorial/how-to relating to technology: from graphic design to programming, game development to windows tweaks. Towards the end of the month, after the entry deadline, a poll will be created to represent the public opinion of the Gamexe.net members as to which tutorial they think is the greatest. Voting will span a few days, in which time all users will be encouraged to submit their opinion. At the end of the voting period, 3 winners will be announced. Of those winners, 1st place will receive $20, 2nd $10, and 3rd $10 as well. All entries will then be added to the collection of tutorials on Gamexe.net for the public to admire, with proper credit of course, and hopefully with some success we'll start a second contest shortly afterwards.
Sounds good? Well, there's the basic introduction, now for the rest of the info, including criteria, rules and submission process....
----------------------
Go to viewtopic.php?f=35&t=1984 for more details, including rules, and submission information! It should be noted that if this contest receives a fair amount of participation, increased/improved prizes may be expected in future events.

New tutorial and SOTW!
So all that bugging got to Dante apparently, cause he finally got around to releasing the VRay 3d Studio Max tutorial.
You can check it out at http://www.gamexe.net/3d/vray-lesson-1/, or by clicking the preview below. Also, the next SOTW has been created, and the theme this week is Free for All, meaning that you can do what you want. (content restrictions still apply as per the rules =X) You can submit your entry at: viewtopic.php?f=22&t=1942 Get them in quick.

Forum Updates!
So, another quick post to keep everyone up-to-date on the forums. I've been doing some maintenance as of late, deleting and creating new forums. Some may notice that Advertisement board that's located in Web Design. It's for exactly that, and I hope users will enjoy sharing their favourite sites there. In addition, I've added a couple new BBCodes: Centre (yes, I'm canadian) and Youtube. Please don't abuse the Youtube one, as although it won't hurt the servers leeching off youtube, it'll make pages quite slow-loading if every post has an embeded video.
And finally, voting has begun for the 36th SOTW: viewtopic.php?f=22&t=1915
Get your votes in.

New SOTW, and still looking for active staff
So, here's a quick update for today. The next SOTW has begun, and can be found at: viewtopic.php?f=22&t=1915 The theme this week is Anime, and all graphic designers on the forums are encouraged to enter.
Also, I'd just like to announce that we're still looking for active staff who would like to contribute tutorials to Gamexe.net. The subjects of the work can be anything design related, whether web design, graphic design, gaming, installing mods for a console, setting up wifi - anything computer/gaming related really. If you're interested in helping us out, feel free to give me a shout by pm'ing me on the forums.
Oh, and everyone bug Dante to try to get him to hurry and up and finish his next 3d Studio Max tutorial.

Server move and SOTW!
That's right - after only 10 hours of having disabled the forums, in order to backup the database, the server move has now been completed! The site is working quite comfortably on our new VPS over at Cirrus Tech. I'd highly recommend them, as their support has been very good at putting up with my various mishaps, and because they're very reasonably priced as well! $5/month for basic web hosting (great for most sites), or $20 for their introductory level VPS (gamexe.net runs on VPS II), was the best deal I could find. And it's Canadian prices too! for all you americans out there who are looking for even more savings. So, I'd definitely recommend checking them out, and if you do, please use the below url that has our referrer id
http://www.cirrushosting.com/?a_aid=497cae40e46df

Oh, and before I forget, voting has begun on our new SOTW, which is Street Fighter themed. Get your vote in by visiting: viewtopic.php?f=22&t=1759
Well, that's all for now. I'm currently working out some bugs that I had noticed from before the server move, and only now have figured out the solutions. But if you notice anything not working, or something out of place, be sure to let me know.

20,000 posts and New tutorial series!
First of all, the forums have hit 20,000 posts! OMGWUTLOLZWOOT! Thanks to all our members who have been with us during this time to help with this milestone!
In addition, (more good news) Dante has created a new series on modelling and rendering the Disturbed logo! I would highly recommend checking out the video tutorials, which can be found under 3D.

Also, as a note, be sure to check out the new SOTW! viewtopic.php?f=22&t=1759 This weeks theme is Street Fighter.

SOTW #30
This is just a reminder that voting for SOTW #30 has begun. If you're registered on the forums, I'd recommend getting your say in the voting process. And if you aren't, maybe you should register.
So, check out the great entries this month, and good luck goes to the contestants!

Happy New Year!-ish
Hope everyone's holidays were great this year! And yes, I know I'm late on the New Year wishes. And yes, I know I'm late on updating the site. But, that's not the point! We're starting off this years on a good note. And that good note just happens to include two new Photoshop tutorials provided by the magnanimous Smash Lord (how's that for an intro?), as well as an update for all the phpBB3 styles as phpBB 3.0.4 has been released. Upgrading is very much encouraged. Anything else? Well, a new SOTW has recently begun - we've already got some quality entries, and I look forward to seeing what else people can come up with.
Anyway, that's all for this update. Here's to another year of randomness here at the family known as Gamexe.net.
Cheers.
